I can imagine this would give Cherlize a very wrong impression of Domninic and Catharina's exchange.
Because as a woman, I can tell you, no matter a man's assurances to the contrary, seeing them with another woman raises doubts. Jealousy is a green eyed bitch, and I'm sure Cherlize feels used after all. It doesn't matter that this society is more into free love and casual relationships, Cherlize may not feel she wants to share something she's longed for for like 300 years.
I will also acknowledge that this is a very dissatisfying ending to this particular story. It is how the written version ends as well, so I didn't really change anything there.
I can assure you that they do work this hiccup out (later stories with them they are together.) but that does not get resolved in this story.
