You'll notice that they keep getting in close to their opponents. This is purposeful. See in this universe, I've established that warlocks/witches cannot cast offensive spells while in contact with a target or they get incorporated into the consequences of the spell. You'll note that Garrett grabs the warlock's arm and they immediately stop casting, if they don't they'll get lashed by the lightning in their own offensive attack.
